Winter Care for Field Implements
A practical sequence for cleaning, greasing, and storing trailed kit so spring start-up does not become a repair week.
Once harvest pressure eases, trailed implements often sit with soil still packed into coulters, hubs, and folding joints. That residue holds moisture through frost cycles and is a common reason bearings fail in the first week of spring work.
Begin with a wash that reaches under trash boards and inside frame tubes. After drying, work grease into every nipple until fresh grease appears at the joint. Wipe excess so dust does not form an abrasive paste.
Check tyre pressures on transport wheels and note any cuts that need vulcanising before storage. Park implements on firm, level ground with weight off hydraulic rams where the handbook allows.
Label each machine with the last service date and any parts ordered. A short written note on the workshop board saves an hour of guessing when the first drilling window arrives.
